What We Do

Youth Theatre Kenya uses the power of theatre to transform lives, nurture talent, and tell Kenyan and African stories.

  • Each year, we bring young people together to create original, world-class theatre. From historical epics to contemporary stories, our productions explore Kenya’s past, present, and future.

    • Kesho Amahoro – a story of peace and resilience after conflict.

    • Albatross: Wings of Freedom – exploring the East African slave trade.

    • The Iron Snake – the history and legacy of the East African Railway.

    • Matumaini – stories of hope and transformation.

  • We offer young people the chance to grow their skills both on and off the stage.

    • Acting, Voice & Movement

    • Writing & Directing

    • Technical Theatre – stage management, design, lighting, sound

    • Masterclasses with leading Kenyan and international artists

    • With the National Youth Music Theatre (UK) and National Youth Theatre (UK), we’ve run exchanges, residencies, and performances abroad.

    • Through grants and cultural collaborations, we’ve delivered specialist skills training that empowers Kenyan youth for the future.

Theatre skills are life skills — confidence, teamwork, empathy, leadership.

  • We take theatre beyond the stage and into schools and communities.

    • School Residencies → bringing theatre training into classrooms.

    • Community Projects → using theatre for dialogue, empowerment, and healing.

    • Youth Arts Festivals → platforms for young people to showcase creativity.

    Key Collaboration:
With The Elephant Queen Outreach Kenya, YTK has co-created programs that use theatre to inspire environmental awareness and conservation.

Theatre becomes a tool for education, advocacy, and social change.
