Meet the People Behind Youth Theatre Kenya

For 10 years, Youth Theatre Kenya has thrived thanks to the vision, dedication, and creativity of the people who make it possible — founders, staff, practitioners, board, and advisors.

The Dreamers Who Planted the Seed

Youth Theatre Kenya was founded in 2015 by four individuals — Lizzie Jago, Ben James, Mimi Mutahi, and Jazz Moll — who were inspired by their work on original productions such as Kesho Amahoro and Albatross. What began as a vision in a Kingston dormitory grew into a national platform for young people to create, belong, and thrive.

The Heartbeat of YTK

Staff & Practitioners

Our team of teaching artists, practitioners, and administrators bring theatre to life every day. From running workshops and rehearsals to mentoring young people, they ensure that YTK’s values of kindness, creativity, and collaboration are lived out in every interaction.

The Board

Guiding Our Vision

YTK is supported by a committed board who provide governance, strategy, and accountability as we grow. Their experience spans education, the arts, community development, and business.

Advisors & Collaborators

Global Inspiration, Local Impact

From the early days, YTK has been enriched by partnerships with organisations and teaching artists from around the world — including National Youth Music Theatre (UK), Broadway Arts Community, Sibikwa Arts Centre (South Africa), and many more. Their advice and collaboration help us connect Kenya’s young performers to a wider world of creativity.

Together, It Works. We Work Together.
